Superocean Automatic 42
Performance and style for all your aquatic activities. In the 1960s, scuba diving became fashionable; it was a new sport. For divers, timing is everything, and Breitling set out to offer them the clearest diving watch possible, eliminating any features that did not serve to save lives underwater. This simplified watch was dubbed the “Slow Motion.” It retained clean lines, the chunky luminescent indexes, the square hands and the high-contrast dial ring, all aimed at maximum legibility. Practical, yes. But what really won everyone over was its look. The new Superocean takes up the famous Slow Motion design codes, while adding modern elements such as a ceramic-inlaid bezel and brightly colored dials. Its wide hands and indexes in luminescent Super-LumiNova® allow for easy readability underwater. The watch is water resistant to 300 m (1,000 ft), and is shock, sand and saltwater resistant. The bronze version uses a special alloy that offers excellent corrosion resistance, but over time develops a subtle patina that makes the watch even more unique. Both strap options (rubber and metal bracelet) feature a butterfly clasp that allows micro-adjustments of up to 15 mm for easy wear over water gear and wetsuits. Its scratch-proof ceramic-inlaid bezel will never wear off or discolor. For added security, the bezel is unidirectional on most sizes and bidirectional with a patented lock on the 46 mm model. Best of all, it’s no longer strictly a dive watch: you can surf, swim and go to the beach bar in it, and then wear it out to dinner. The Superocean perfectly balances the nostalgia of its heritage with a fresh new look.
