World Watch Day is an open invitation to share the passion for watchmaking in all its forms. It will be celebrated every year on October 10th, evoking the traditional display of 10:10 on watch dials, which is a subtle symbol of balance, beauty, and joy in the measurement of time.
The first edition of the World Watch Day, October 10, 2025, will be transmitted online, following the time zones from East to West. It will be the perfect excuse to celebrate watchmaking with international launches and/or announcements.
With the spirit of a shared celebration, the day will be animated by media outlets, associations, collector clubs, and content creators all around the world. Throughout the day, watchmaking will be explored from all its dimensions: from culture to science, from economy to sports, and from traditional craftsmanship to contemporary art.
A non-profit association has been created to coordinate the initiative, bringing together the voices of all those who are essential to the promotion of the watchmaking culture worldwide. The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève Foundation, the Watch Library Foundation, the Horopedia Foundation, the Horological Society of New York, Europa Star, Le Figaro, Hantang Culture, and Arc Horloger are among its founding members.
The association is designed to grow and evolve, welcoming all of those who are looking to contribute to this open and inclusive initiative. Besides the live transmission, the event is open to all the local or independent initiatives as a shared celebration of the craft and culture of time.
Context
The official announcement occurred on Monday, April 7th, 2025, in Watch & Wonders, during a panel dedicated to watchmaking and the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, celebrated in the main auditorium.
The first edition of World Watch Day will be celebrated on October 10th, 2025. Both professionals and watchmaking enthusiasts are invited to send in their proposal and content for the World Watch Day through the online form before June 5th.
It is evident, now more than ever, that watchmaking is an art in itself, the twelfth art. The work of master matchmakers captivates collectors around the world, and their craftsmanship is widely admired and deeply valued. For centuries, people across the globe have marveled at the ingenuity and artistry of those who bring time to life.
What makes it even more surprising is that, until now, there has never been a universal day dedicated to watchmaking, especially taking into account that watchmaking and mechanical arts have been recognized as cultural heritage of UNESCO since 2020. Learn more.
