Performance and style for all your water activities. In the 1960s, scuba diving became fashionable; it was a new sport. For divers, timing is everything, and Breitling set out to provide them with the clearest dive watch possible, eliminating any feature that did not serve a life-saving purpose underwater. This simplified watch was named the “Slow Motion.” It maintained clean lines, chunky luminescent indices, squared-off hands, and a high-contrast dial ring, all aimed at providing maximum legibility. Practical, yes. But what everyone truly fell in love with was its look. The new Superocean retraces the Slow Motion’s celebrated design codes while adding modern elements, such as a ceramic-inlay bezel and brightly colored dials. Its broad hands and indices in luminescent Super-LumiNova® allow for easy readability underwater. The watch is water-resistant to 300 m (1,000 ft) and is shock, sand, and saltwater resistant. The bronze version uses a special alloy that offers excellent corrosion resistance, but over time develops a subtle patina that makes the watch even more unique. The two strap options (rubber and metal bracelet) feature a folding clasp that allows for micro-adjustments of up to 15 mm for easy wear over swimwear and wetsuits. Its scratch-proof ceramic-inlay bezel will never wear or fade. For added safety, the bezel is unidirectional on most sizes and bidirectional with a patented lock on the 46 mm model. Best of all, it is no longer strictly a dive watch: you can surf, swim, and hit the beach bar with it, then wear it out to dinner. The Superocean perfectly balances the nostalgia of its heritage with a fresh new look.
